About Sweet Science Events

Sweet Science Events is dedicated to bringing quality boxing to the Catskill Region. Jeff Wurst, the president of Sweet Science Events, is an attorney who has enjoyed a lifelong passion for the Sweet Science.

His earliest memories of boxing date back to listening to the Floyd Patterson - Ingemar Johansson fights on the radio. Then he was glued to the radio during the Liston-Patterson fights and again for the Ali (then Cassius Clay)- Liston fights. As an adolescent he discovered the Gillette Friday Night Fights and quickly became addicted to them.

Jeff spent his teenage years playing music with bands in the Catskills. Most of the prominent hotels would host a boxer and have a ring set up for sparring. Jeff enjoyed watching the champs and future champs work out in this region. While a college student, he and some friends attended a "College Rush" weekend at the Concord Hotel where Joe Frazier was training. He spent his days watching Joe workout and was thrilled when Joe joined his group for dinner and partying at the Concord's nightclub.

Jeff was fortunate to find his soul mate who shares his love for boxing. Jeff and Vera seized the opportunity to invest in some prominent boxers, including David Tua, Tony Thompson, Samuel Peter and Shannon Briggs. They were with Shannon for his twelfth round come from behind knockout of Sergei Liankhovich at Chase Field in Phoenix on November 4, 2006, where they had the reward of holding up the newly obtained championship belt just won by Briggs.

When the opportunity arose to step up to the controls and promote events themselves they seized it. Sweet Science Events is driven by a passion for boxing and not by a desire for wealth or power. We hope you share this passion with us and look forward to seeing you at our events.
